Leave tails dangling and add a few loose strands randomly. Separate plies of yarn tales for unraveled look.

New Sheep(ish) Pattern: Vase Cozies on Craftzine!

Knit Vase Cozies

Flowers aren't the only way to add a pop of color to otherwise plain-Jane vases. With just a bit of yarn (Might I suggest, Sheep(ish)?) and an evening in front of the TV, you can whip up a craftier solution! These vase sleeves are worked up in the current pattern-craze du jour (see my Ode-to Missoni Blanket): the chevron stitch. Make them in your favorite colors, then change 'em out to fit the season... or your mood!

Get the pattern HERE and snag the yarn at select Michaels and JoAnn stores!

Coming to the marketplace preview on Friday evening? Stop by the Unwind booth, where I'll be signing copies of Awareknits: Knit & Crochet Projects for the Eco-Conscious Stitcher. Hope to see you there!

Chevron-craze Aftermath

chevy on Ohdeedoh

I'm sitting here staring at the loot I scored from the Missoni at Target launch, after noticing that the article on my Chevy blanket on Ohdeedoh is the Top post for the week and am wondering...are we all that caught-up in the chevron-print craze? Yeah, I think we are.

I did score a *few* Missoni things from @Target, though.;)

What's next? Pucci and pools of color? Betsy Johnson and polka dots? I don't know, but I can't wait to find out and start stitching more odes to some of my favorite designers!

Craft Corps on Blog Critics

It's been a while since I've mentioned Craft Corps, my passion project written to nurture and celebrate the creative community.  It was a lovely surprise this morning to get an alert though, that Blog Critics reviewed it and had such positive things so say about it. Give their article a read if you have a moment, then head on over to CraftCorps.org to add your own profile for fellow crafters to enjoy. The site is set to automatically refresh the home page so it features a new crafter with every click. Share your store!

Read the Ohdeedoh Article HERE

My excitement for the Missoni line launch at Target may possibly have reached ridiculous levels. The bold, graphic pieces they're known for at prices that most can afford? A budget-conscious girl with a love for fashion never had a chance!

The Chevy baby blanket is my crafty ode to Missoni--the design house that has me silly for stripes and seeing chevrons in my sleep. Enjoy!--VH

Fire Relief for Friends

Bastrop Fire. (Credit: AP)

As I'm sure you've heard, there's been horrendous fires engulfing different parts of central Texas. The worst by far however, is in Bastrop (30 minutes outside of Austin) where so far 34,000 acres and 785 homes have been lost.  One of those homes belonged to my son's piano (and my friend/former bass) teacher, Jonas Wilson and his girlfriend Jenny Gracy.

Jonas, humoring Clover by wearing my sunglasses while he's giving a lesson.

Jonas and Jen--who are both musicians and bandmates in The White White Lights--shared not only their house, but also the recording studio where Jonas made a large portion of his living by composing and producing. With only a moments notice, they had to evacuate as both structures were devoured by flames. They lost everything--their clothing, furniture, music equipment, artwork...everything. I cannot even fathom how devastated and defeated they must feel.

Their families have set up a donation drive to help get them back on their feet.  You can read the full details about it here, or simply donate by clicking below. No amount is too small.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

With love,
Vickie

New Sheep(ish) Pattern: Lacy Daisy Ascot

(Shown in color: Yellow(ish)

My latest Sheep(ish) design, the Lacy Daisy Ascot, is now available for free on Caron.com. It's a 1-ball project so if you've been waiting for something small to make before you gave Sheep(ish) a try, then it's time to pick up those sticks! Lacy Daisy ads a pop of color to any outfit and makes a great gift item for teachers, girlfriends, and moms! It'll only cost around $4 to make, but will look like a million bucks.

Enjoy!

Vickie
