CRL Season 2--Promo Giveaway!

What time is it?  It's CRL time!  What time is it?  It's giveaway time! (Sorry, the new Mac commercial with the cheerleaders was just on, and it stuck).

WEll, we're down a phone recording device and a sound engineer but we're still aiming for launching season 2, next Thursday the 22nd---ish.  May the crafty Gods be with us!  In the meantime though, hows about a little swap?  You give CRL a little pimping action on your blog or website, and I give you free yarn.  Whaddya say, are you in?

The first 50 people to post this banner (either copy this image or cut and paste the code here)
AND e-mail rebecca@vickiehowell.com, will have a ball of VHC Rock delivered to their doorstep.

Don't wait, free stuff always goes fast!

Craft. Rock. Post.

Lace Scarf Pattern--GIVEAWAY for Everyone!

Even though the anticipatory Knit Aid contest giveaways are over and the book's now officially in-stores, I wanted to continue the celebration by giving you all a little somethin'-somethin' in appreciation of your support.  For a limited time the kick-awesome scarf pattern below, designed by my friend Melinda Morrow (you may also remember her Bat Cape from Not Another Teen Knitting Book), is yours for FREE!  That's right folks, zero down with no interest paid! ;)

This post will be up for two weeks (until May 27th) at which point the pattern will be available through my shop for 5 bucks.  Soooo, print it while it lasts--and while you're at it, get your yarn while it's hot!  Wait, what?  Well, you know I mean.

Thank you so much to all of you who've bought my latest book and have left positive comments about it!

Knitlicious kisses, Vickie

P.S.  This post was typed to the tunes of the latest cd from CRAFT Club.  I kid you not, I found a band that I not only really dig, but who also uses the word "Craft" (aka the yarn used for this project) in their name.  I think I'm in love.

Row 27: border, k7, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k7, border
Row 29: border, k8, yo, sl 1, k2tog, psso, yo, k8, border
Row 30: wrong side row

Repeat these 30 rows a total of 6 times, then repeat row 1 once. Do not bind off. Leave these stitches on your circular needle.

Borders:

Using a long-tail cast on, LOOSELY cast on 17 stitches on a double-pointed needle. (It’s really important that the stitches be loose. Try casting on over 2 double-pointed needles.)

Set up row: Knit 16 stitches. Join the remaining stitch of the border to the first live scarf stitch on the wrong side by knitting these two stitches together through the back of the stitch.

Row 1: slip the first stitch purlwise with the yarn held to the back. K3, (yo, k2tog) 5 times, double yo, k2tog, k1.
Row 2: K 3, purl (this will be in the second loop of the double yo), k to last stitch, join with next scarf stitch by knitting together through back loop.
Row 3: Sl 1, k4, (yo, k2tog) 5 times, double yo, k2tog, k1.
Row 4: K3, purl 1, k to last stitch, join.
Row 5: Sl 1, k5, (yo, k2tog) 5 times, double yo, k2tog, k1.
Row 6: K3, purl 1, k to last stitch, join.
Row 7: slip 1, k 19
Row 8: k 19, join
Row 9: slip 1, k 19
Row 10: bind off 3, knit to last stitch, join

Repeat rows 1 – 10 for a total of 7 repeats of the border.

In one repeat, join two consecutive rows of border to the same stitch of the scarf. You should repeat the border chart 7 times.

Bind off all stitches on the last WS row.

Remove the provisional cast on and repeat for the other end of the scarf.

Weave in ends, block, and enjoy.

The Mix

Ok, this'll be a quick one because I'm grounding myself from my computer for the day...ok let's be realistic, for a few hours, to work on the crochet poncho that's due in a few days.

Big mushy-gushy thanks to everyone for the kind words about Knit Aid!  I really appreciate the love.  Also, a quick holla' (yes, I may be the whitest person alive.  hush.) to those who've blogged about it so far:

Speaking of Mix Tape, have you guys read it yet?  It's my fave, new zine.  It's produced in Australia, but can be easily delivered to your doorstep by ordering here!

One of the mag's publishers, Justine (who, over the months has become my web buddy, too), sent me a couple of copies last year and I was immediately hooked.  It's smartly written, and filled with loads of great, crafty content infused with pop-culture, parental anecdotes, and eco- consciousness.   I was honored when they asked if they could interview me for their 4th issue!  It was fun to do because they asked me questions that don't usually come up, in crafty pubs--mainly having to do with music.  Since I turned in my answers though, I've been having writer's regret about bands I left out from the "Top 5 Albums" question.  I mean, I named a freakin' yarn after Jeremy Enigk & Trent Reznor and totally forgot to mention Sunny Day Real Estate's "Diary" and NIN's "The Downward Spiral"!  Oy, and don't get me started about how I totally snubbed Billie Holiday and James Taylor.  But I digress.

Ok, enjoy the article and check out the zine. You'll totally dig it, I promise!
